CCM School of Leadership

We want to coach, develop and hone the leaders that are in our Christ Church Manchester community. Leaders are key parts of our Church; they help us to bring God’s Kingdom to Manchester, to our local communities and, ultimately, to the world. But they need help, guidance, teaching and a chance to try, all the while, encouraging their leadership gift.

Learn to Lead While You Lead

When Jesus coached his disciples, he did so on the job. Most of the time they were actively getting on with their leadership, and now and then he would pull them aside and offer some timely input.

We approach leadership development in a similar way. The CCM School of leadership meets for one Friday morning per month, to provide encouragement, prayer and teaching as you lead in your ministry areas, and this is supplemented by a couple of overnight residentials each year to go a bit deeper.

Course Content

The CCM School of Leadership will provide important leadership teaching from proven leaders that can help take your own leadership to the next level.

Sessions will include practical teaching, groups discussions and the opportunities for Q&A, as well as prayer and ministry times.

The course starts in September 2018 and runs for one year, and will include six Friday morning sessions and two overnight residentials:

September 29th 2017 – Building a Three Year Strategy For Growth

Growth doesn’t usually happen by accident. In this session we look at what it means to plan for growth. What issues do we need to think through? What strategies or processes do we need to put in place? What steps can we take to ensure that our hard work is consistently effective in reaching our goals?

Speaker: Andy Brownlee – Andy is one of the elders at Christ Church Manchester. He pastors CCM:Withington and leads the CCM:School of Theology. He also has an MA in Church History and a post-graduate diploma in Missional Leadership.

November 2nd-3rd 2017 – Developing People (overnight residential)

When we drill down to the heart of leadership, we find that it almost always comes down to the same thing – developing people. Everyone around us is on a journey, and the best leaders are those who are able to help the people around them move forward on that journey, fulfil their potential and thrive in their ministry.

In this 24 hour residential, we hear from two movement leaders about what is involved in developing people, as well as fellowshipping, eating and praying together.

Speakers: Mark Mumford – Mark, along with his wife Nesta, lead Community Church in Derby. Ge is involved in the East Midlands Christian Fellowship and he heads up the UK apostolic team for Salt and Light Churches.

Andrey Bondarenko – Andrey leads a group of newfrontiers churches in Ukraine and for over twenty years has been actively involved in serving the church in Russia. A few years ago, Andrey started to develop a service to India. His primary focus is to identify and train young leaders, both to strengthen existing churches, and to plant new ones.

December 1st 2017 – Managing Yourself (pt. 1)

Often, the hardest person to manage is yourself. Many leaders who have perceptive insights into others lack self-awareness about their own strengths, weaknesses and personality traits. Developing an understanding of how you tick, and putting in place strategies to get the best out of yourself is a key part of self-leadership, and in this session Bryn begins to engage this topic.

Speaker: Bryn Hughes – Bryn is a consultant in church leadership and church management, and works with churches and movements all over the world to help them lead better.

January 12th 2018 – Managing Yourself (pt. 2)

Often, the hardest person to manage is yourself. Many leaders who have perceptive insights into others lack self-awareness about their own strengths, weaknesses and personality traits. Developing an understanding of how you tick, and putting in place strategies to get the best out of yourself is a key part of self-leadership, and in this session Bryn builds on the foundation laid in the previous session to take us deeper into the topic.

Speaker: Bryn Hughes – Bryn is a consultant in church leadership and church management, and works with churches and movements all over the world to help them lead better.

February 9th 2018 – Recruiting and Motivating Volunteers

Most (if not all) churches depend heavily on the work of volunteers to get things done. For our churches to grow and progress, we need to make the most of the volunteer base available to us, and in this session Colin discusses how we can make the big ask for volunteers to get involved, and how we can keep them enthusiastic and encouraged in their roles.

Speaker: Colin Baron – Colin is a prolific church planter with a gift for identifying and developing young leaders. He is the Senior Leader of Christ Church in Manchester, the founder of Broadcast Church Planting and works into Germany, Brazil and the UK.

March 9th 2018 – Developing and Empowering Volunteers

Most (if not all) churches depend heavily on the work of volunteers to get things done. In the previous session, Colin looked at how we can recruit and motivate our volunteers. In this session, he builds on that and looks how we can further develop and empower the volunteers that we have in our churches.

April 26th-27th 2017 – Topic TBC (overnight residential)

In this 24 hour residential, we will receive leadership teaching on a topic yet to be confirmed, as well as fellowshipping, eating and praying together.

Speakers: TBC

June 22nd 2018 – Conflict Resolution

Despite all the best intentions, conflict is inevitable in any organisation. Depending how that conflict is handled, it has the potential to derail the progress of the mission, or to serve as a catalyst for greater unity and respect and open new doors of opportunity. In this session, Bryn looks at how we can handle conflicts that arise.

Speaker: Bryn Hughes – Bryn is a consultant in church leadership and church management, and works with churches and movements all over the world to help them lead better.
